The Beauty of Getting Well with Kid’s Nutrition Expert Christy Jones

By Christy Jones

I started my own personal health journey a decade ago when my daughter became persistently sick. After months of struggling to find something that would help, a drastic change in her diet turned her health around! Seeing the difference eating healthy made in my daughter’s life inspired me to learn more about how healthy lifestyle changes could help other people in similar situations.

I took lessons from a nutritionist, explored various healthy-eating regimens, and spearheaded an interactive nutrition program in my daughter’s school. Over the past six years, my program has spread district-wide and I now work with 2,500 children every year as well as teaching mindfulness and stress-reduction lessons for educators and business!

In 2016 I received my Holistic Health Coaching Certification from Health Coach Institute and in 2017 and coach both individual and group sessions. Children, retirees, working men and women, I’ve worked with people from all stages of life! I firmly believe that it is never too early or too late to work on transforming your health—if you’re ready to make positive changes in your life.

Soup for Digestive Health

One of my recommendations for building a healthy gut is having a handful of soup recipes that you love on hand. Soup is easy to digest and packed with nutrition. One of my favorite soups is called “Detox Soup.” I was introduced to this soup years ago by a women who taught me much of what I know about gut health when my daughter was struggling with digestive issues. This was one of the main soups I made for her to help her digestive system.

This is wonderful for helping clean our blood and reduce the over growth of yeast in our body. Anyone who has dealt with candida knows we have to be really careful about staying away from foods that feed the candida. This soup can be used as part of a candida cleanse or just enjoyed as a healthy meal.

More tips for building a healthy gut:

  1. For our gut to be healthy it needs to be warm and relaxed.
  2. Stay away from ice and cold drinks. It makes the gut stiff and leaky. Instead drink room temperature water and warm lemon water.
  3. Avoid being stressed when you eat. Stress turns off the digestive system and we do not digest our food properly.
  4. Check-in with yourself before you eat and notice what your stress level is. If you are stressed, take a few deep breathes.

Health Coaching for Kids 9-18

As parents, we always want our children to be living their best life. However, we are seeing more and more children lacking confidence, suffering from stress and feeling anxious.

That is why I have created “Empowered To Be Me,” a program that mixes health and life coaching, specially designed for kids 9 to 18 years old. This program aims to teach powerful life skills for navigating school and friends, let go of the thoughts that limit their minds and unlock their potential through mindfulness activities and play.

It’s time to do something if your kids are experiencing:

  • Attention Issues/ decreased focus
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Digestive issues
  • Food allergies/ seasonal allergies
  • Constipation
  • High stress
  • Lack of confidence
  • Can’t sleep at night
  • Health challenges such as auto-immune disease, IBS, diabetes, acid reflux, and more
