A Note from Marguerita Cheng, CFP® Pro — I invite you to tune in for this week’s episode of my podcast and video show, Margaritas with Marguerita, where for 15 minutes each Friday at 5:15 pm EST, we learn from industry experts how to flex our financial muscles live on Facebook.
Meet our guest: Dorothy Hinchcliff of Rethinking65.com
Today’s Topic: The Financial Advisor Revolution
- Dorothy, you’ve observed the business for more than 20 years as a high-ranking executive at Financial Advisor magazine and now as founder of Rethinking65. What do you see happening in the financial advisory business and why do you refer to it as a revolution?
- Your publication focuses mainly on advisors who serve clients who are 50 and over. What do you see changing among advisors serving this demographic?
- What do you think still needs to change when it comes to serving clients 50 and over?
About Dorothy: The publisher and CEO of Rethinking65.com, Dorothy has held managing editor and executive editor positions at Financial Advisor magazine during her 20-year tenure. She was the architect of FA’s Invest in Women conference. Rethinking65.com is an information-packed website that she launched in March 2021 with a team of highly experienced publishing professionals who have devoted their careers to reporting and compiling information for financial advisors.
- Its goal is threefold:
To offer an indispensable resource for advisors who want to help clients plan for a long life that is well-lived and purposeful - To highlight ideas that create a new narrative for the second half of life
- To give a greater voice to financial advisors who are implementing new ways to help clients near or in retirement.
Dorothy explains: “We embrace the initiatives being advanced by organizations including the Stanford Center on Longevity and the MIT AgeLab that aim to redefine what it means to be old and value people at different stages of life. We believe that what retirement means will change dramatically over the coming decade as people — particularly advisory clients and prospects — live longer. In 30 years, life for older people won’t look like it does now. Financial advisors have an enormous opportunity to build their client base if they are well informed about this transformation as it happens and to be important leaders in changing the conversation about retirement and aging.” Learn more at rethinking65.com.
