May 2020 — I am a big fan of “Shakti Leadership,” a book that has become a movement, by Nilima Bhat. A long time supporter of Conscious Capitalism, hers was one of the earliest books for the movement. I bought it and I gobbled the contents of the 200-page primer within days of its release in 2016. Paging through it now, I find the well-worn pages have my notes jotted in the margins about what I’ll do from the inspiration gleaned. I am amazed to find that much of the dreams and ideas have—or are about to—come to fruition. I find fabulous and am reminded again to write it down, make it happen.
I find myself catapulted back to the hours I sat reading it poolside. I was visiting my cousin in Phoenix, and dropped notes I was taking into her jacuzzi. Those now dried looseleaf pages are neatly tucked inside the back cover featuring the words that have guided me ever since: “Even breath, clean mind, and open heart,” p. 37. This wisdom is in the section about cultivating presence. After a series of breathing and relaxation exercises, readers are told that something magical will happen: “That which is excess and no longer needed travels out through your feet; limiting beliefs will be replaced by clarity of mind, body, spirit and soul.” Affirm: “I am Shakti now. I am empowered now. All is need is within me. All I need comes to me.” What a purifying plan!
About “Shakti Leadership:” Co-authored by Conscious Capitalism cofounder Raj Sisodia, this book teaches us how to balance our lives, our work, and our perspective on life using an ancient archetype of leadership. This approach is generative, cooperative, creative, inclusive, and empathetic. “Both men and women have Shakti within them,” insists Nalima, which is why we are honored to share her wisdom and insights in the May 2020 issue of Inkandescent Women magazine. The theme, “Educating Women,” is shared by all of the women featured in this edition. Meet them here!
It is also the magic with which the Inkandescent Group, LLC continues to grow and build its offerings. Be on the lookout for our new distance learning training company, www.InkandescentLearning.com. For any masterful teacher who wants to target the readers of our magazines that focus on women, wellness, and kids, please be in touch: hope@hopegibbs.com. We will be sharing details in the coming months.
As for what’s coming at Inkandescent Women, next month we’ll bring your stories to provide comfort and food for thought in our June, “My Corona,” issue. Stay tuned for that — and please stay safe, stay sane, and stay inside to keep everyone well! I leave you with this parting thought from Mahatma Gandhi: “When soul-force awakens, it becomes irresistible and conquers the world. This power is inherent in every human being.” — Love, Hope
